Then - The ICCF was founded in late 1996 by three motivated mothers from the international community who were frustrated at the absence of suitable English language Kindergarten facilities. It opened its doors for the first time in January 1997 with initially two groups called the ‘Little Ladybirds’ for children aged 2-3; and the ‘ Big Busy Bees’ for children aged 3-4 The total number of children in each class was set at 8 and 10 respectively.
The centre became an instant hit and rapidly became a ‘must’ for all international families with young children in Sofia.
And now - The demand for places continued as Sofia began to prosper as a business and commercial centre and in summer 2006, the ICCF moved into new premises in the Dragalevtsi area of the city with the ability to take 48 children at 4 age levels.
The Classes now are called :
‘Little Ladybirds’ – ages 2-3
‘Big Busy Bees’ – ages 3 – 4
‘Cheeky Chickens’ – ages 4 – 5
‘Clever Cats’ – ages 5 – 6
The age groupings are used as a guide only and are not definitive with the progress of children to the next level being undertaken when and if the child, his or her parents and the teaching staff feel the time is right
The ICCF is governed by a board of volunteers comprising of both parents and ex parents. It traditionally encompasses members that are representative of the different nationalities that are present in the school and all decisions concerning the running of the ICCF are agreed by the board.
Note: The ICCF is a non-profit making organization run by the board for the benefit of the children who attend the facility.
